Director, Digital Media Systems Laboratory
Robin Gallimore is director of Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Bristol and of HP's
Digital Media Systems Laboratory. The lab is responsible
for media technologies for a planetary-scale, service-centric
infrastructure as well as research surrounding Semantic Web
technologies, applications and software-enabled service infrastructure.
Gallimore joined HP Labs Bristol in 1985 as a senior engineer,
making technical contributions in software engineering and
formal methods.
After being promoted to department manager, he ran research
programs in document interchange formats, intelligent document
capture and appliances. His team was instrumental in developing
the technology platforms that enabled Hewlett-Packard to
compete in the-then converging copier and printer markets.
In 1999, Gallimore was appointed Director of the Publishing
Systems and Solutions Laboratory, where he was responsible
for creating HP Labs' digital media solutions research program.
Gallimore graduated in Computation in 1971 from the University
of Manchester Institute for Science and Technology (UMIST),
and then became a member of the UMIST faculty of Computation
with research interests in formal methods, parallelism, and
distributed systems.
