Director, HP Labs Bristol
Director, Digital Media Systems Laboratory

Robin Gallimore is director of Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Bristol and of HP's Digital Media Systems Laboratory. The lab is responsible for media technologies for a planetary-scale, service-centric infrastructure as well as research surrounding Semantic Web technologies, applications and software-enabled service infrastructure.

Gallimore joined HP Labs Bristol in 1985 as a senior engineer, making technical contributions in software engineering and formal methods.

After being promoted to department manager, he ran research programs in document interchange formats, intelligent document capture and appliances. His team was instrumental in developing the technology platforms that enabled Hewlett-Packard to compete in the-then converging copier and printer markets.

In 1999, Gallimore was appointed Director of the Publishing Systems and Solutions Laboratory, where he was responsible for creating HP Labs' digital media solutions research program.

Gallimore graduated in Computation in 1971 from the University of Manchester Institute for Science and Technology (UMIST), and then became a member of the UMIST faculty of Computation with research interests in formal methods, parallelism, and distributed systems.
