Multimedia is an increasingly popular form of digital content. Large scale search and retrieval technologies for multimedia information are expected to gain importance in both consumer and enterprise sectors. Our research in multimedia information management aims at developing technologies for automating concept extraction and providing search and retrieval over a large quantity of multimedia information.
Presently we focus our effort on building a video intelligence platform. This project aims to deliver key technologies towards an integrated video analytics and data management platform. This research is collaborating with China National Lab for Information Science and Technology at Tsinghua University which conducts world-class research in multimedia analysis and management. It also represents one of the research projects presently under way at the Tsinghua-HP Multimedia Research Center.
Large scale data management is one of HP Labs research projects designed to make it easier to find, access, process and act on information based on structured and unstructured data. It is focused on enabling enterprises and other organizations to build and grow a dynamic knowledge base by continuous human and machine updates. This knowledge base will be easily accessible to all members of the organization via a simple web interface as well as provide the foundation for a new breed of business information applications.
The research project combines the scalability of machine learning with the accuracy of human input to create a self growing knowledge base. It uses what it knows about the current knowledge base to proactively collect, analyze and organize new data, allowing for continuous updating and enhancement over time. In doing so, it seeks to provide knowledge workers, business decision makers and market analysts with applications and tools that provide faster and more relevant data access, enterprise search, expert advice and competitive analysis.
