	Director

Liu, Wei

Wei Liu is the director of HP Labs China, which is to create technologies for analyzing, processing and managing structured and unstructured data on the web and in organizations.

Wei has been working for HP since 1988. He has served on several engineering and managerial positions in manufacturing, product development, research and strategic business planning at China HP, HP Labs and HP product divisions. Most recently he was the research program director and university program director at HP labs China and contributed in establishing the China lab. Prior to that, Wei worked at HP Labs in Palo Alto and HP product divisions in Colorado for more than10 years, as senior R&D engineer, research scientist, project manager, and strategic business planning manager. During that time, Wei and his team invented several CMOS technologies that were widely used in many HP products. He also led in creating product and technology roadmaps for three HP product lines. Prior to his HP career in US, Wei worked as production engineer and senior R&D engineer at China HP. He participated in building up the product testing capability at China HP, and led in the creation of HP's first R&D organization in China.

Wei 's research interests include mixed signal IC design, computer architecture, Web technology and data management. He has published widely and been granted several US patents in those areas. He received PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of Colorado.

Greving, Warren

Warren Greving is the Director of International Research Development at HP Labs. His twenty year engineering and management career at HP has focused primarily on software R&D, including AI programming languages, CASE development environments, and embedded software platforms. Since 2001, he's been deeply involved in the management and operations of expanding HP Labs research capability in new locations, Bangalore and Beijing, and researching the impact of emerging country user and business requirements on HP's technical research agenda.

Zhang, Stacy

Stacy is the Administration Assistant of HP Labs China, and has been with China HP since 2003. She mainly assists to lab office operation which is including visitors reception, event organization, payment and internal order processing, and other regular admin job. Stacy received her Spanish Bachelor's degree at Capital Normal University, and has worked for Spanish and Italian companies previously. Her "research" interests out of work are at travel, reading, music,etc.

Xiong, Yuhong

Yuhong is a Project Manager at HP Labs China. He joined HP Labs in 2002 and has worked on several projects in the following areas: embedded processor design, pervasive computing, P2P? systems, content distribution, and content management. Currently, he is taking the lead in the Fusion project, which is aimed at aggregating online educational materials and make them easily accessible to people. His research interest includes content management, data mining, information extraction, component software, and multimedia. Yuhong received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.

Wang, Weihong

Weihong is a Research Scientist at HP Labs China. She's interested in studying resource allocation and performance optimization problems in large-scale and autonomic computer systems, and developing novel solutions to them, for example, by applying market models, game models, system theory, and machine learning algorithms. Weihong received her PhD degree in Computer Engineering from University of Toronto.

Zhou, Baoyao

Baoyao joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in June 2006. Prior to that, he has just finished his PhD at Division of Information Systems, School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Baoyao's research interests include Knowledge Discovery & Data Mining, Web Mining, Personalized Web Services, Semantic Web, and Digital Library. He has published around 20 academic papers in top international conferences and journals. His current research focuses on digital content management, information extraction and DSpace based Digital Museum projects. Baoyao received his B.Eng. degree and M.Sc. degree from Department of Automation, Tsinghua University. He also interned at Microsoft Research Asia and worked for Lenovo Corporate Research and Development, Beijing.

Li, Qinghu

Qinghu is a Research Scientist at HP Labs China, with in-depth research experience with peer-to-peer structures and data management. He also has abundant experience with design and implementation of various database-related projects. He joined HP Labs in 2006 and has been working on several projects in the following areas: hydro informatics, web mapping and video database. Qinghu received his Bachelor degree, Master's degree, and PhD degree in Computer Science all from Tsinghua University, and completed post-doctorial research program before his coming.

Feng, Shicong

Shicong joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in July 2006. Currently, he is taking part in the Web Content Discovery and Organization System led by Yuhong. Shicong's research interest mainly includes Information Retrieval, Data Mining and Distributed Systems. Prior to joining HP Labs China, he completed his PhD from Peking University in the area of search engine in June 2003, and he worked for Lucent China from July 2003 to July 2006.

Yu, Tao

Yu, Tao joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in July 2006. She is part of HP Labs Advanced Database Program, working on large scale data management and consolidation. She got her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from University of California, Irvine in 2006. Her research interests include distributed system,s data and information management, Service Oriented Computing (SOC), E-commerce, Web services and QoS management.

Liu, Rui

Liu, Rui joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in June 2006. He is part of HP Labs Advanced Database Program, working on large scale data management and consolidation. He got his PhD degree from Software Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University. His research interests include Grid Computing, Enterprise management systems and very large scale information systems.

Tang, Liang

Tang, Liang joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in Jan. 2007. He is part of HP Labs Image Search & Organization Program, and he also acts as a program manager of the Tsinghua-HP Multimedia Research Center. His interesting includes image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, and music analysis. Liang received his PhD degree in information and communication engineering from Xidian University, Xi'an, China in 2004, and worked as a postdoctor from 2004-2007 in Tsinghua University.

Yang, Sheng-wen

Shengwen joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in July 2007. Prior to that, he had just got his PhD degree at Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University. His research interests include computer-supported cooperative work, computer networks, machine learning, parallel and distributed computing, and information management etc. He received his BE degree and MS degree from School of Information Science and Engineering, Northeastern University.

Luo, Ping

Ping joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in July 2007. Prior to that, he has just obtained his PhD degree in computer science from Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Ping's research interests include Knowledge Discovery & Data Mining, Machine Learning, Distributed Computing, Web Mining. He has published several papers in some prestigious refereed journals and conference proceedings, such as IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, ACM SIGKDD. In his spare time, Ping always sweats over at badminton and tennis courts.

Lin, De-miao

Lin, Demiao joined HP Labs China as a Research Engineer in Aug 2007. He is participating in the projects about Web Content Discovery and Organization. His research interests include Content Management, Data mining and Information Extraction. He spent six years in Tsinghua University from 2001 and got his Bachelor and Master degree in Computer Science. He is interested in anything that is novel for him, and loves to try if possible.

Zhao, Yong

Yong Zhao joined HP Labs China as a Research Engineer in Aug 2007. He is part of HP Labs Fusion Project, working on data mining and data analysis. He completed his bachelor degree from Hunan University in Jul 2004, he completed his Master degree from Tsinghua University in Jul 2007. His research interests include Statsistics, Data mining, Information retrieval and pattern recognization. His hobbies include swimming,history,movie,etc.

Chang, Cheng

Chang, Cheng joined HP Labs China as a Research Engineer in Aug 2007. He is part of HP Labs Advanced Database Program, working on large scale data management and data mining. He completed his Master degree from Tsinghua University in Jul 2007. His research interests include Data mining, Information retrieval and pattern recognization. His hobbies include swimming,reading,movie,etc.

Jin, Jian-ming

Jianming Jin joined HP Labs, China as a research scientist in August 2007. His research interests include pattern recognition, machine learning, natural language processing and document image processing. Before joined HP Labs, China, he received his PH.D from Nankai University in July 2003, worked at Tsinghua University as a post-doc form August 2003 to August 2005, and worked at NEC Labs, China as an associate researcher from August 2005 to August 2007.

Jiao, Li-mei

Limei Jiao joined HP Labs China as a Research Scientist in Sep. 2007. She is part of HP Labs Advanced Database Program, working on large scale data management and consolidation. She got her Ph.D. degree in the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2007. Her research interests include Large-Scale Information Systems, Distributed Middleware, Database Workload Analysis. Prior to joining HP Labs China, she worked for National Research Center for Intelligent Computing Systems (NCIC), ICT, CAS from March 1996 to August 2007.
