Accommodations

News: October 14, 2003
  • As a boutique hotel, the number of rooms at the Acqua Hotel is very limited. Please make your reservations as early as possible. Indicate that you are an IEEE LAN/MAN attendee to obtain the conference rate. The conference rates are only available by telephone and fax to the hotel. These rates are not available ONLINE.

The organizers of IEEE LANMAN 2004 are pleased to announce that the next workshop will be held in the final week of April, 2004, at the Acqua Hotel in Mill Valley, just miles north (and just across the Bay) from San Francisco. For a glimpse of the hotel and the beautiful surroundings, visit the Hotel's Web site at http://www.marinhotels.com/acqua_guestrooms.html

Lodging

Lodging can be expensive in the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly in the upscale towns of Tiburon, Sausalito, and Mill Valley. It is strongly recommended that people attending the conference book early. Please note that the prices below do not include an additional 10% occupancy tax.

Mill Valley

In Mill Valley there is the conference hotel and several nearby restaurants. The town is very small, so everything is within walking distance.

Discount Hotels

Available restaurants in the area are: Indian, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, Thai, light Mexican, regular Mexican and, of course, a Starbuck's.

A small decent motel with approximately 20 rooms, some of which are permanently inhabited.  The manager quoted the following rates but did not wish to make any guarantees or allocate a block of rooms:
Monday-Thursday, Sunday: $59 single, $69 double
Friday and Saturday: $69 single, $79 double
(prices do not include 10% occupancy tax).

This is a AAA recommended hotel. The rooms are not very big but they are adequate.

Both the Travel Lodge and the Aqua Hotel are located on the shore of a water wild-life preserve (a branch of the San Francisco Bay). There is a multi-use path over and around the preserve.

Other Options for Lodging

Other options for lodging include downtown Sausalito, Tiburon, and downtown San Francisco. We are investigating overflow room pricing at:

The Waters Edge (Sister hotel to conference venue - expensive)

25 Main Street, Tiburon, CA 94920
Phone: (415) 789-5999, Fax: (415) 789-5888
Mention IEEE to receive the following preferred rates (per night): $200 per room per night.
(prices do not include 10% occupancy tax)
This is a "boutique" hotel with only 15 rooms right on the Tiburon shore with San Francisco views.

An equally spectacular choice is the Casa Madrone in Sausalito (expensive).

If you choose to stay in these or other locations, you will need your own car. Downtown San Francisco and Tiburon are linked by both bus and ferry service, but these services are oriented towards commuter traffic into San Francisco. You would be doing the reverse commute for which there is virtually no support. For accommodations in San Francisco, please refer to any visitor's guide. In Mill Valley the following web page lists accommodations, including some of the hotels described above. http://www.millvalley.org/accommodations1.html. Sausalito's accommodations are listed at: http://www.ci.sausalito.ca.us/vis-info/hotels.htm
