[Gc] 6.6 on Mac OS X 10.3.9

Hi Andrew,

I recompiled with DEBUG_THREADS set to 1, and indeed I do _not_ see any 
information printed from within darwin_stop_world.c.  I am sure darwin 
thread support is enabled. Any further ideas? The platform is os x 10.3.9.
