Biography

Barbara Waugh is the manager of a project to transform Hewlett-Packard Laboratories to be the best lab in and for the world. She is or has been a machinist, actress, journalist, teacher, therapist, social activist, community organizer, partner and mom, and draws on learnings from these roles to craft change in HPL. She is on the Board of Directors, State of the World Forum; the Board of Advisors, Pacific Cultural Conservancy International; and the Board of Advisors, Global Fund for Women.  She has a Masters in Theology and Comparative Literature from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Psychology and Organization Behavior from the Wright Institute in Berkeley.

Biography

Laurie Mittelstadt has been member of the technical staff at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories for the past 15 years, and she holds several patents for her creative contributions to inkjet materials and design. She has masters degrees in physics from San Francisco State University and materials science and engineering from Stanford University. She was a founder of HP's Technical Women's Conference that biannually draws together several thousand HP employees. She is an exceptionally effective organizer and champion of social causes, having a long record of successful commitments in the area of professional growth and internal and external corporate responsibility.

James R. Sheats received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1978 at Stanford University, with a thesis on molecular motion in lipid membranes. After postdoctoral work in nonlinear chemical dynamics at MIT and Stanford, he joined HP Labs in 1982, where he has contributed to a wide range of applications of chemistry in electronics, including photolithography, superconductors, electroluminescence, and memory, described in more than 40 journal articles and several patents. He currently manages a program to analyze and develop technology opportunities motivated by environmental sustainability. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Physical Society.
