Winning Essays from Singapore Science Centre
The Walk Through Time essay competition was held in Singapore in September, 1998.
Contestants are secondary school students, ages 13-16. The essays were based on:
Theme #1 - It is believed that the
extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago was pivotal in allowing a great diversity
of mammals to evolve and flourish including man. Write an essay based on a day on earth in
the year 1998 AD, in a world where dinosaurs did not go extinct.
Theme #2 - What is the most significant
discovery, invention or field of study in present time that, in your opinion, will have
the greatest impact on the evolution of life on earth for the next millennium.
Science Centre has published one of the essays in their magazine "The Singapore
Scientist." SC may plan to publish the essays perhaps on the web later and
create additional publicity with related events to usher in the year 2000.
