Since our establishment in year 2002, HP Labs India has established itself as a pioneer and leader in doing ICT research on topics in India. While we have enormous social and knowledge talent, IT has not been pervasively deployed fundamentally because of the complexity of IT. Additional barriers include the lack of communications infrastructure and the economic of IT. HP Labs simplifies Web and IT experiences by developing technologies such as using pen based input for Indian scripts, voice based IT access in local languages and use of broadcast networks for mass communications.

As many of these challenges get addressed, we are poised to see unprecedented and unpredictable deployment of web technologies in every sphere of economic, social and personal endeavor. As we look forward, this transition presents huge areas for new research and technology innovation.

Our active research areas include: Personalization of Web Experience, Paper in the Digital World, Mobile Personal Computing, and Web as a Compute Platform. Technology areas of excellence at the labs are image processing & recognition, embedded systems and web services.
