HP Labs India was established in February 2002 with the principal
focus on creating new technologies for addressing the IT needs of
the next billion customers for HP. A large majority of these new
customers arise from rapidly growing markets such as India with
distinct technological, social and economic characteristics. By
understanding this context deeply, HP Labs aims to create new and
relevant technologies.
Some of the contributions from HP Labs India include the Gesture
Keyboard, Lipi Toolkit,
Trusted
Hardcopy, Printcast
and Educenter. These contributions
have received recognitions
such as the Asian Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award
2006, Manthan Award 2007 and NASSCOM Award 2007.
HP Labs India follows the tradition of deep technical research
that has direct impact on HP’s business through innovations
in product and service offerings valued by customers.

it's inventions
Document Authentication System (DAS) among Asian Innovation
Awards 2007 finalists.
Lipi
Toolkit from HP Labs India won a Manthan award for 2007
in the e-localization category.
Gesture Keyboard runner
up at the Technology Innovation Awards 2006. It also won the
NASSCOM Innovation award in 2007.

Sudhir Dixit is Director of HP Labs India Sudhir Dixit is heads the Bangalore facility of HP Labs, the company’s central research arm from June 15th 2009.
Dixit will be responsible for leading the research activities of the Innovations for the Next Billion Customers Lab (HP Labs India), focused on addressing the technology needs of customers in India’s rapidly growing markets and creating technologies to make IT relevant, affordable and simple for consumers.
Dixit holds a Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and an MBA degree from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida. He is a Fellow of IEEE (USA), IET (UK) and IETE (India) and has published numerous papers, books and holds several patents. He has also held various management or engineering positions at Nokia Siemens Networks, Research In Motion (RIM), NYNEX Science & Technology and GTE (both now Verizon Communications), Codex Motorola, Wang Laboratories, Harris, and STL (now Nortel Ltd, U.K.).
