HP Labs to launch vernacular keypads

The Hindu Business Line
R. Savitha
27 September, 2005

With a total headcount of 700 across its six labs globally and operations in India for the past three years, HP Labs (HPL), is all set to roll out vernacular keypads in the domestic market as also a system to capture, store and redistribute educational programmes from television along with printable data in quality format.

Mr Ajay Gupta, Director, HP Labs, said HP Labs India has developed a cost-effective, easy-to-use vernacular keypad. A user can write by making gestures on the keypad with the help of a pen, similar to writing.

This Gesture Keyboard is compatible with various editors, databases, search engines, and mailing and chat applications.

Mr Gupta said the keypad has been developed for Devanagari script and is being tested for Tamil script.
