Web Based Print Distribution

The growth of the Internet has created an explosion of print content. A large percentage of printing today is off the Web. However, most Web content is optimized for viewing and Web based content is usually not well formatted from a printing perspective. The printing workflows are mostly manual – the consumer is expected to locate the content and print. The value of print is not fully realized in the current web based publishing environment.

Our research in this area is focused on technologies that enable web content providers to offer a better print experience to end-users. This includes better layout technologies, control over the type of printable content and new business models for distributing print in a web based publishing environment. These revolutionary ideas hold the potential of transforming the distributed digital publishing practices.

The core research areas in this field are:

  • Vector and Raster Document formats
  • Digital publishing
  • Secure or trusted devices
  • Digital rights management
  • Document description and Mark-up languages and their interpreters
