- Paper and IT Convergence |
Despite widespread adoption of information systems, paper continues
to play an important role in enterprises and businesses. Enterprises
and businesses encounter pain points in dealing with paper such
as: capturing information from paper, tracking, routing and digitizing
paper, delays due to physically transporting paper, paper related
fraud, etc. Many of these negatively impact the speed of business
transactions.
Our work in this area deals with developing
innovative technologies for the seamless interaction between the
paper and the digital world to overcome these pain points. The sort
of problems we look at in this area include: detection and segmentation
of objects in a document image, document repurposing for scanning
and printing, segregation of handwritten ink from a printed document,
high quality recognition of the extracted ink, document image matching,
increasing density of machine readable content on paper and preventing
tampering of paper documents.
Our areas of research
interest include:
- Handwriting recognition
- Document image
analysis and understanding
- Computer vision
- Pattern recognition
- Information theory
- Machine learning
