HP is officially launching a research facility in India with a major technology symposium on what will also be the lab's mission: innovating for emerging markets.
The February 26 symposium is the first in a series to "bring together the multiple perspectives needed to create successful technologies for emerging economies," says Dr. Srinivasan Ramani, director of HP Labs - India.
HP Labs - India research topics will include devices to provide Internet access at low cost, speech communication interfaces for computers and new models for human interaction with IT equipment and software.

Among other things, he played a pioneering role in bringing the first Internet connection to India in the 1980s, used satellite technology to expand telecommunications networks to small towns and helped launch an "open university" to train computer professionals.
