HP Labs Innovation Research Program

HP Labs is proud to announce the winners of the 2009 Innovation Research Awards.

The HP Labs Innovation Research Program is designed to create opportunities -- at colleges, universities and research institutes around the world -- for breakthrough collaborative research with HP.

Through an annual, open Call for Proposals, we solicit your best ideas on a range of topics with the goal of establishing new research collaborations. Proposals will be invited against targeted IRP Research Topics when the next call is announced, and will be accepted via an online submission tool. They will be reviewed by HP Labs scientists for alignment with the selected research topic and impact of the proposed research. Details of the 2010 Innovation Research Program will be announced in late 2009.

Awards under the 2009 HP Labs Innovation Research Program are primarily intended to provide financial support for a graduate student to assist the Principal Investigator conducting a collaborative research project with HP Labs. Consequently, awards will provide cash support for one year in the range of USD $50,000 to $75,000, including any overhead.

Information on the 2009 HP Labs Innovation Research Award recipients can be found here, including a detailed list of the selected professors and projects.

2009 Program Guidelines and Research Topics

Full program guidelines are detailed in the 2009 Innovation Research Program Call for Proposals, below. Detailed descriptions of the 2009 IRP Research Topics are available in the accompanying IRP Research Topics document:

Collaborative Research Agreement

To be eligible for an award under this program, an applicant’s institution must review and accept the HP Labs Innovation Research Program 2009 Collaborative Research Agreement (CRA) as part of the proposal-submission process (see the 2009 Call for Proposals for full details). Key provisions of the IRP CRA specify university and HP intellectual property rights in the project and secure other important aspects of the collaboration. An overview and commentary on the agreement is provided in the CRA Companion Document.

Proposal Submission

The online proposal submission system is now closed for the 2009 Innovation Research Program.
