HP Labs Innovation Research Program
The HP Labs Innovation Research Program is designed to create opportunities -- at colleges, universities and research institutes around the world -- for collaborative research with HP. HP Labs is pleased to announce the Innovation Research Program 2010 Call for Proposals. Through this annual, open Call for Proposals, we solicit your best ideas on a range of topics with the goal of establishing new research collaborations. Proposals are invited against targeted IRP Research Topics, and will be accepted via an online submission tool. They will be reviewed by HP Labs scientists for alignment with the selected research topic and impact of the proposed research.
Awards under the 2010 HP Labs Innovation Research Program are primarily intended to provide financial support for a graduate student to assist the Principal Investigator conducting a collaborative research project with HP Labs. Consequently, awards will provide cash support for one year in the range of USD $50,000 to $75,000, including any overhead.
Information on the 2009 HP Labs Innovation Research Award recipients can be found here, including a detailed list of the selected professors and projects.

Program Guidelines
Full program guidelines for the 2010 Innovation Research Program are detailed in the 2010 Call for Proposals document, below. Full descriptions of the 2010 Research Topics are also available below. The Innovation Research Program will move to a two-phase process in 2010. In phase one, applicants will be invited to submit short, 3-page abstracts of their proposed research projects. All submitted abstracts will be reviewed, and selected authors will be invited to develop and submit a full proposal in phase two.
Collaborative Research Agreement
To be eligible for an award under this program, an applicant’s institution must review and accept the HP Labs Innovation Research Program 2010 Collaborative Research Agreement (CRA) as part of the proposal-submission process (see the 2010 Call for Proposals for full details). Key provisions of the IRP CRA specify university and HP intellectual property rights in the project and secure other important aspects of the collaboration. The 2010 Collaborative Research Agreement has not changed from the 2009 Collaborative Research Agreement.
