Bangalore

Biography

Geetha Manjunath is a Senior Research Scientist and Master Technologist at HP Labs India. She is  currently the co-Principal Investigator of the SWAN project that aims at radical simplification of user’s web  experience particularly in mobile environments. She joined Hewlett Packard in May 1997 as an  extended team member of HP Labs Research, Palo Alto. She has developed several innovative  prototypes and published many papers in the area of Embedded Systems, Java Virtual Machine,  System solutions for mobility, Grid Computing, Storage Virtualization and Semantic Web. Her research  in the above areas has also lead to new product proposals and many US patents. She moved to HP Labs India in June 2007 as a member of the personalization team exploring use of Ontologies and  Semantic Web Models for Content Personalization, Expert finding and Semantic Similarity  Measures. Before joining HP, she was a senior researcher at Centre for Development of Advanced  Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore for 7 years - where she lead a team to develop parallel compilers for  distributed memory machines.  She is a gold medalist from Indian Institute of Science where she did her Masters in Computer Science in 1991 and is currently pursuing her PhD. She was awarded the TR Shammanna Best Student award from Bangalore University in her Bachelors degree for topping across all branches of Engineering.

Research interests

Her research interests are in Semantics of Data, Programming Language Design and Distributed  Computing. Her current research focus is on creating a novel web application platform enabling end-users to package and simplify their own personal web interaction patterns.
