Research interests

Database systems and their implementation, including query optimization, query execution, indexing, concurrency control, recovery, and database utilities.

Awards

“2009 ACM Software Systems Award” for the Gamma database machine project, 1980s at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Inaugural “Influential paper award” awarded at IEEE ICDE 2005 for our IEEE ICDE 1993 paper on extensible query optimization.
“Test of time award” awarded at ACM SIGMOD 2000 for ACM SIGMOD 1990 paper on parallel query execution.
