Biography

Dr Ryan K L Ko (高国隆) is a Researcher with the Cloud and Security Lab, HP Labs Singapore focusing on Trust, Security and Accountability in Cloud Computing, Big Data Visualisations, Workflow Management and Service Orchestrations. He is currently leading the TrustCloud research project, and is also experimenting with Linked Data and Usage Log Analysis. A recent work proposing the novel Kandinsky Graphs as explorative graphics for inference of Web resources related to real events clinched the Best Paper award of USEWOD 2011, a workshop in conjunction with the WWW 2011 conference in Hyderabad, India.

Dr Ko also serves in the Board of Directors for the Cloud Security Alliance This is a Non-HP site (CSA) Singapore as Director of Research, leading as Co-Chair of the CSA Cloud Data Governance Working Group This is a Non-HP site. He is currently the co-chair of the IEEE TSCloud 2012 Symposium and IEEE UbiSafe 2012 (both part of IEEE TrustCom 2012), IEEE TSCloud 2011 workshop (part of IEEE TrustCom 2011), co-chair of CloudVis 2011 (part of IEEE CloudCom 2011), Associate Editor of Security and Communication Networks, Editor of ACM XRDS from 2009 to 2011, and TPC member and reviewer for several academic conferences (e.g. IEEE TrustCom 2012) and journals (e.g. IEEE Spectrum, Elsevier Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, etc).

During his PhD in Nanyang Technological University, he was awarded the Best Student Award 2009 by A*STAR (SIMTech), and clinched the 1st Prize of the prestigious 4th IEEE Services Cup (Service Computing Competition) in Los Angeles, California in 2009.

Prior to HP Labs and his PhD, Ryan was an entrepreneur with two startups - one of them was a contracting organiser of events in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games 2010 in Singapore; it was regularly featured by the local print media, radio and websites such as CNN Go. From 2005-2007, he was with Micron Technology, Inc, where he managed SAP systems, design and manage workflow and BPM systems, and aligned the company for SOX compliance. Ko is an active volunteer, public speaker and a regular Cloud Security contributor on the HP.com 'Grounded in the Cloud' blog. He is a member of the IEEE, ACM and AAAI.
