Research Interests

  • Image processing, Automatic press control
  • Document understanding, document management
  • Digital libraries, information indexing/retrieval
  • Software management, automatic binary software package generation
  • File systems, hierarchical storage management, tertiary storage
  • Distributed systems, network file systems, distributed operating systems
I currently lead the HPL-Israel Systems Software Project, which looks at systems-level software and issues for the HP Indigo and HP Scitex presses.

Previously, I led the HPL-Israel Document Processing and Understanding Project. We made scanned documents more useful, and the first fruits of our research, the HP Document system, were released in the LaserJet 3200. The HPD browser is largely based on the UC Berkeley Digital Library Project's Multivalent Document concept.

I was a member of the Storage Systems Program (SSP), and worked on the AutoRAID project. At U.C. Berkeley I worked with the Network of Workstations Project on the xFS file system. I also worked with the Mariposa project on distributed database systems.

External Collaborations Software Packages
  • lmbench performance analysis toolset
  • mkpkg software packaging tool
