CS 236601: Information Retrieval and Digital Libraries

Spring Semester

This course is meant as an introduction and overview of the technologies and applications of Information Retrieval technology. The covered topics an introduction to the various applications and uses of information retrieval technology, some measures of retrieval accuracy, and some common algorithms and data structures. The course is meant to provide both the theoretic understanding of the field as well as hands-on experience developing and evaluating information retrieval methods.

The course will be taught in English, and all homework and exams must be submitted in English.

Prerequisites

Although these prerequisites are not formal requirements, a student without them is likely to have some difficulties.
  • Introduction to Systems Programming (CS234122) or C++ programming experience.
  • Introduction to Data Structures.
  • Introduction to Statistics would be helpful.
  • Machine Learning would also be helpful.
