Jamie Beckett is managing editor of the HP Labs external
Web site, writing, editing and managing Web content for Hewlett-Packard's
advanced research center.
Under Jamie's leadership, www.hpl.hp.com has been transformed from a static technical site into a high-profile portal promoting innovation at HP. She initiated and lead an overhaul of site strategy, content, design and information architecture that resulted in a 43 percent increase in page views in the first six months (400 percent, July 1999-July 2005; more than 125,000 unique users).
A key aspect of Jamie's role is developing regular feature stories, news articles and podcasts about HP innovation that appear in publications (online and hard copy) worldwide as well as the HP Labs Web site.
Jamie joined HP in 1999 after a career writing and editing for daily
newspapers, including most recently, The San Francisco Chronicle,
where she worked for a decade covering everything from earthquakes
to e-commerce. Jamie was cited for outstanding performance
by The Chronicle for articles about the widespread availability
of illegal goods on the Web.
Previously, Jamie worked at USA Today, Newsday, the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin and the Stamford (Conn.) Advocate, where she was
part of a team nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
Jamie holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University
and a bachelor's degree in American Studies and magazine journalism
from Syracuse Univerity.
Jamie spends much of her spare time writing fiction. She is currently
at work on a series of linked short stories about a family of Vietnamese
refugees. She has published work in literary magazines and won
several fiction-writing contests.
She also enjoys gardening and reading.
