I am a member of the Information Dynamics Lab at HP Labs.
Broadly, my research interest is the formation and management of identity, reputation and social norms in electronic environments. In the past, I have explored archives of email and Usenet, and I enjoy designing novel environments for interaction, as well as studying them.
Lately, I have focused my attention on social information organization and social sharing of media content; see the work on collaborative tagging, below.
Prior to joining HP, I received an M.S. in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Laboratory and an A.B. in Linguistics with Computer Science from Harvard College.
If you're within HP, please visit my HP-internal page, which has demos and descriptions of as-yet non-public work.

My personal homepage is redlog.net, where you can find, among other things, lots of photos of my cat Butterball.
I like to build things, out of wood, metal, Legos, etc. Lately, however, I've gotten into throwing clay, and have made several laughably misshapen bowls.
