Yuan Chen
Senior Researcher

 |
Yuan Chen is a senior researcher with
the Sustainable IT Ecosystem Lab at
HP Labs in Palo Alto, CA. Yuan received a
B.S. from University of Science and Technology of China, a M.S. from
Chinese
Academy of Sciences, and a Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology,
all in Computer Science. His general research interests are in the design,
implementation and management of distributed and enterprise systems.
Research
Yuan's research at
HP Labs has been in the area of IT service management with a focus on efficient
SLAs and energy management: how to provide services as efficiently as possible
while meeting the required SLOs in data centers. He is developing an integrated
solution that considers interactions between dynamic resource allocation,
runtime workload migration/consolidation and cooling control to
"right-provision" computing, power, and cooling resources and hence
improves overall efficiency of data center operations.
Yuan's past work
includes policy-based change management, adaptive distributed systems and middleware, publish-subscribe systems, Internet storage
systems, parallel data mining algorithms, and constraint programming.
