mode-motion is distributed with XEmacs (in my understanding, most
mousy things rely on mode-motion). mode-motion has special hacks to
test for ange-ftp, and inhibit file system activity if it looks like
it would start an FTP session. But it seems that these hacks are
somehow broken, or that i miss to setq some obscure variable (i.e., i
got the same weird behaviours also when i used ange-ftp).

i fear that it should be more complicated than a global replace of
ange-ftp with efs, if the outcome has to work properly...

incidentally, today i read of mode-motion+, from bosch@crpht.lu (Guido Bosch),
that reimplements mode-motion in a better way (they say).

if i can get a connection to the archive-site of mode-motion+,
ftp.loria.fr (no route to host, and that's for real:-), i'll try this
different implementation and tell you if i find some differences.
