dired 7.1 and vc interaction problems

There's an interaction problem between vc and dired 7.1 when finding
files.  It appears that vc-registered calls the file-name-handler
dired-handler-fn explicitly, which then somehow ends up called
vc-registered again, util max-lisp-eval-depth is reached.

The good news is that the file has been loaded into emacs by then, so
repeatig the operation works fine.

For the record, I'm using lemacs 19.10 with both of the patches to
fileio.c from Hamish Macdonald.
