This used to work with the old dired. Of course this has nothing to do
with archie (or at least that's what I believe). Other commands, e.g. d
give an "Argument out of range" error
I wouldn't rush in to exculpate archie. The bit of code that's
causing trouble for those it troubles deals directly with the keymap
manipulations, and got to its present state precisely because it was
at one time changing the regular dired map, instead of making a copy
for its own use. (Wasn't it in fact you, Piet, who discovered that?)
I have a suspicion here: those of you having problems with archie and
Xemacs, do you by any chance load in the new efs dired at loadup time?
I suspect the reason others of us have no problem is that we loadup
the older version, which archie happily munges, but load the newer
version before doing any actual direding. As a result, archie doesn't
notice it's broken, dired actually isn't, and things proceed sort of
OK. Some other action sequence would probably disclose problems still.
I love dynamic binding. Really I do.
