We've seen this before: You have a nonstandard ftp client, probably
with readline compiled-in or some such. This is typical Linux
fuckage. There's not really a way to deal with this in general from
within EFS; your best bet is to have EFS run a standard ftp client.
The BSD one comes to mind.
