efs 1.16/dired 7.9 uses `characterp'; not defined in emacs 19.34

But it probably suffices to put 

    (defalias 'characterp 'integerp) 

somewhere in an emacs 19--specific startup file.


Is this list still alive?  Am I subscribed to it?  I didn't get a copy of
my last report.
