I am Maurizio Pilu (short
bio) and I am a technical lead (Senior Research
Scientist) at the Hewlett
Packard Laboratories, part of the corporate Office of
Strategy and Technology of Hewlett Packard Co.
Role. My current role is concerned with the generation of new
product ideas and technologies to enhance Hewlett-Packard’s
product portfolios and execution on those with
the highest potential. This involves understanding
the market potential, the competition and broad technology
trends but also details of specific, often cutting-edge academic
and industrial technologies.
Activities. Most of the current work I do is
confidential but from time to time something it is
declassified. See here for some of my

activities.Intellectual Property.
Patents are an important strategic asset for HP. I am inventor
or co-inventor in around 50 filed patents. 10 patents have been granted so far
(Feb 2007). See here for a incomplete list. In
addition, I am a member of Intellectual Property Strategy Panel
at HP Labs.
Publications. I have authored or co-authored
over 30 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and
conferences and a number of reports.
