What if accessing the computing power of the planet was as easy as turning on the tap for a glass of water?

In HP's Internet Systems and Storage Lab, we're working to make that happen by inventing a global information infrastructure that provides anytime anywhere access to applications and data.

Our vision - More people, places and things are connecting to each other and to useful services via the Internet. This evolving world will require an enormous amount of processing power and storage capacity -- a vast information infrastructure. We believe data centers could become 10 times larger as they are today, containing as many 50,000 servers and a comparable amount of storage capacity.

Our work - We're designing a whole new model of computing to handle this vast infrastructure. We call it Planetary Computing . This new model will allow us to harness computing power from around the world, allocating IT resources where ever and whenever they're needed most. Supporting the computing utility will be a worldwide storage utility that will deliver data securely to where ever it's needed.

Our lab - Our lab has a global presence with researchers working in Palo Alto, California and Bristol, England. This allows us to uniquely address global Internet markets, technologies and issues. We are an inventive lab that is application- and systems-focused.
