The Mobile & Media Systems Lab research focus is on mobile, network-centric appliances and the systems to deliver user-specific rich media services.

Streaming media, vision & graphics and networking projects are developing technologies that enable rich multimedia communication over existing and next-generation networks by overcoming the challenges of media, mobility, management, scaling, and security.

Appliance techologies is exploring algorithms and architectures for processing and transmitting digital video, audio, and data on a wide range of media-rich, network-centric platforms spanning desktops and low-power portable devices.

Research in advanced systems architecture is conducted at HP Labs at multiple levels, including the architecture of tightly-coupled high-performance networking interfaces, enhancing the security of computer systems from the desktop to the data center, support for high-performance technical computing, high-performance chipsets and instrumentation techniques for large servers, and GRID computing.

Bristol is developing technology and lifestyle insights that will lead to valuable and profitable integration of mobile and media technology into the daily lives of consumers and businesses.

BiReality is investigating a compelling, as well as economically advantageous, alternative experience to physical travel.

MMSL Japan is providing advanced technologies for next generation rich media and e-service infrastructure, creating strategic linkages in Japan, and integrating into larger MMSL and HP Labs programs.

Information theory researches the mathematical foundations and practical applications of information theory, generating intellectual property and technology for Hewlett-Packard through the advancement of scientific knowledge in these areas.
