Abstract: People collect information from the Web, take notes, make calendar entries, set alarms, etc. to stay on top their day-to-day activities and accomplish short-to- long term personal project goals. The InfoPal project in HP Labs is chartered to develop a web/mobile platform for on-demand, personalized information delivery services to help people create, plan, manage, and share personal projects. In this paper, we describe the LiteFlows service component of InfoPal, which turns static content (collected or generated by users) into active light-weight workflows, so that tasks and their content can be presented or reminded to the users at the right place and time and enriched with project-related recommendations or advertisements. LiteFlows is built on top of a dynamic workflow engine and uses integer programming to optimize the selection and assignment of advertisements and suggestions to tasks. We believe, interacting with the users at the task or project level provides a richer context of user intent and enables more effective personalization and targeting.
