Abstract: The HANGMAN network is a prototype Gbit/s multiservice network that has been designed and built at HP Labs Bristol. In this paper we describe the architecture of the network interface unit that forms part of the HANGMAN network. In particular we show how the interface unit supports synchronous traffic types; how it can be a vehicle for research into high speed transport protocols; and how a single interface unit can support multiple attached devices.
