Abstract: This paper describes a novel commercial small-parts flexible assembly workcell incorporating substantial HP-developed performance and control enhancements, and presents examples of applications in HP. Workspace ranging from one to tens of square feet is achievable. The cell contains multiple fist-sized mobile modules which are simple, inexpensive, quickly replaceable, and safe. Control is by an HP workstation (X-Window System, Motif, mouse). Positioning resolutions is 0.2 um. Placement accuracies of 5 um have been achieved
