Abstract: Artificial intelligence began on the far-out fringe of computer science and has been progressing into the mainstream of software engineering through the use of AI components, such as inference engines, that can be embedded in programs written in more traditional languages. Eclispe takes this progres- sion one step further by allowing the use of Lisp in combination with rules and traditional C programming. We are currently making use of Eclipse in our work on a team software development environment.
