Microwave Loss in Non-Linear Optical Polymers

Abstract: Microwave loss measurements to 40 GHz are reported for side-chain and cross-linked non-linear optical polymers. Measurements on poled and unpoled materials are described. In addition, reference structures using SiO(sub 2) in place of the polymer material are also measured in order to isolate the material loss from the electrode and package losses. Material loss for poled and unpoled polymers is estimated to be less than the measurement uncertainty (0.25 dB/cm) over the entire frequency range.
