Distortion of Analogue Intensity Modulated Signals in Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

Abstract: Distortion of analog intensity modulated signals amplified by near traveling wave semiconductor optical amplifiers, which is observed even for input optical powers significantly lower than saturation, is shown to be strongly influenced by residual facet reflectivity. Harmonic distortion levels have been observed to vary with wavelength by more than 12 dB.
