Reset-free System for Real-Time Polarization Control and Synthesis

Abstract: A system for synthesizing and/or controlling polarization in real time is described. It features a computer controlled fast polarimeter, a LiNbO(sub3) polarization converter chip, and a simple reset-free control algorithm which is independent of the design of the polarization converter. The output state of polarization can be selected by keyboard control with no insertion or rearrangement of optical components. The system exhibits a low polarization dependent loss, yielding a constant output power suitable for measuring the polarization response of devices and systems.
