Keyword(s):
Abstract: We present S++, a new MAC layer protocol which offers several features that are desirable for Gbit/s networks. We explain the evolution of the S++ protocol and describe its detailed operation. Analytical results derived from a queuing theory model are used to verify the behaviour of the protocol under certain conditions. We present a number of simulation results which show how S++ offers consistently lower mean sojourn times (system delay) than the DQDB protocol, when used on a folded bus network.
